The jumping-run was called off, after a heavy thunderstorm had floated the place of the tournament.
Willi put on everything he could find, to protect him from the rain.

SUMMER, SUN, HOLYDAY
Finally we finished our work and have holiday now..
Holiday at home !
The Lake Brombach is only a stone's throw from here and has a beach for dogs. That's perfect for us.
The water has now the temperature of the water in a bathtub and the dogs can't get enough..
Gina has discovered that there are fish in the water and she wanted to catch them at all costs.
She was constantly diving under the water.
Afterwards we dropped in on the beach-bar "Arche" for a glass of wheat beer,

Gina was allowed to stay at home, it was too hot today. Then it was the tournament of our own dogs-club and I had to help the whole day and had no time for my dogs anyway.

OUR BOY TURNS 7 YEARS TODAY
I can remember well, 7 years ago when Steffi, the breeder of Merlin called me. She told me that Blue is in pup. I have been looking for a pretty blue-merle dog for years.
She asked me: "What appearance shall he have, how do you imagine him?"
I said: " Broad blaze, white collar, good pigmented nose, brown eyes, well set ears, long hairs, no curls, few black spots, and the grey of his fur shall not be a silver-grey but a beige-grey.
She answered:" Stop dreaming, such a dog doesn't exist"
But Blue gave birth to a dog exactly as I had always desired.
We wish our cuddle-pet to get well soon and we hope we will spend still a lot of beautiful years together.

AGILITY-TOURNAMENT IN HOFSTETTEN
Icy got 3. place in the A-run, altough she made 2 mistakes !
In the Jumping Open one bar dropped: 5. pLace
Gina was allowed to start instead of Merlin, but you could see that I didn't practise with her very often in recent times.
I've changed my way of leading the dogs an so our communication rather bad. 14. and 18. place.

MERLIN HAD A X-RAY EXAMINATION
Merlin had thrown down a hurdle at the last tournament and afterwards he was a little lame in his foreleg. The next day all was well again. That's why he was allowed to attend the seminar 4 days later.
In the evening he was lame again, this time more severe. So I went to the animals' hospital with him to have him X-rayed. The X-ray showed a new injury at the cannon bone and an old injury at the elbow joint, which was not completely cured. The joint is now severely swollen.
During the next 4 weeks he is not allowed to move a lot, this will be a very hard time for us.
After that time we will see if an operation is necessary.
In any case he can't do agility any more this year.

AGILITY-SEMINAR WITH ESTHER AMMON
This weekend a seminar was held in our dogs-club "Hundefreunde Weissenburg" Icy had to attend both days after Merlin dropped out.
Esther put up shorter courses because the weather was so hot and we were very happy about that. She gave me a lot of tips how the
team "Icy-Helga" could go even better with each other.
Because of the sunny weather I could take a lot of great pictures.

AGILITY-SEMINAR WITH JOHANNES VORAN AND MARKUS SCHMITT
The seminar was held at the Doberman-club in Feucht..
We had extreme weather conditions. On Thursday it was could with continour rain and the next day was sunny and hot.
The courses were interesting and demanding, we learnt a lot an could try out unaccustomed ways of leading the dog.
Originally I wanted to take part with Merlin and Icy but Merlin went lame after the first day and I had to leave him at home and could do it only with Icy.

AGILITY-TOURNAMENT IN KREUTH
Today I could start with Icy for the first time in the level A2. We had a clear round in the A-run, 3. place (1. qualification), and in the Jumping2 we had a disqualification (the wrong tunnel)
Result of our super-doggie after 5 tournaments: 5 placed A-runs.
With Merlin I had also a quite good A-run, however he turned in front of a hurdle (because I was too slow again) and that was punished with a fault.
We got place 11, it was a stiff competition.
In the Jumping 3 we got place 21.

KREISAUSSCHEIDUNG AGILITY 2010
I started with my two A3 dogs at the KG I HSV Nürnberg Nord-West in order that we can take part in the Bawarian Championship. Today Merlin showed a great performance.
Merlin got the first place in the overall classification and got the title:
Kreismeister level A3 of Kreisgruppe II
( Level A3: A-run 1. place no fault Jumping3: 2. place no fault )
Gina had a disqualification in the A-run and in the J3 the 3. place no fault
Icy got Kreismeister level A2 der Kreisgruppe II
It was Icy's first start in the higher level A2. The handler was Madeleine Wechsler, a promising young talent of the agitliy group at our dogs-club Hundefreunde Weissenburg.
They had a very fast run, but the very last bar dropped.
(Level A2 A-run 2. place, 1 fault, Jumping 2: 4. place, 1 fault)
Kimba got Kreismeister level A1 der Kreisgruppe II
Madeleine Wechsler startet in addition with her own border collie in the level A1.
It was the first time she startet at a agitliy tournament at all, with a great result:.
(Level A1: A-run 1. place no fault (1. Quali), Jumping1: 8. place 1 fault + runtime error )

PROMOTION TO LEVEL A2
at the agility-tournament of the Pfotenflitzer in Pörnbach Icy had again a successful run, 2. place (no fault) and promotion to level A2.
That happened at her third participation at a tournament!!!
In the jumping she got 4. place no fault.
Merlin had several faults in his runs.
But he could get to know his son Kimi (Limahl von Skuddenhof), who lives now in Munich.
Kimi's new mistress has teached him a lot of terrific tricks and has now started to coach also agility.
She had Kimi's coat shorn last summer, now it is still a little bit poor.

ICY'S AGILITY DEBUT
Icy had her first agility tournament today. It was in Hirschaid, judge: Ernst Schauwecker
Although she startet too soon it got finally a quite successful run:
3. place A1 no fault. (1. qualification)
Jumping place 11 of 66 starters, no fault.
Merlin, my silver arrow was much too fast for me: disq. in both runs

"family reunions"
Renate Kalteis held an agiltiy-seminar at the "SV OG Hofstetten" a few steps from our place and had Merlin's daughter Quell of Nym with Magic Eyes called "Nym" as well as mom "Sun" with her..
We jumped at the chance and drove there.
Nym is now 10 month old and already taller than her mom. She is a lively and bold bitch.
In the pictures you can see that Merlin loved her at once.

Bussi, our new pet
The long lasting winter with a lot of snow caused a buzzard to circle permanent over our property .
So I put little cuts of green meat on a platform
It didn't take a long time, until he had dicovered the food. He ate it bit by bit and had not the slightest hurry . Afterwards he cleaned his feathering and the he flew away at ease.

Since then he watches us constantly and waits for his next meal.
When I go for a walk with the dogs, he follows us a bit on our way.
Hopefully the snow will thaw off soon and then he will not need us any more.

Gretta Grain Hafkins
I got a nice email of Sonja, the owner of Gretta.
She is a very active young lady and teaches Gretta dogdancing and a little agility.
Gretta is now 8 month old, too young for jumping over hurdles , so Sonja practises to direct Gretta without bars.

The mother is Rebecca of Pinewood Country (daughter of Merlin), the father is Grizzly of Pinewood Country.

Pictures Merlin's offspring
Recently I got news of two dogs of Merlin's first litter.
Lennon lives now in Savannah (Georgia /USA) and Limahl is at home in Munich.
Thanks a lot to Janice and Silke for the nice pictures!
I'm always pleased if a master or a mistress of Merlin's offspring gets in contact with me and sends me some pictures.
I'm also interested in hearing how the dogs have developed and if they are healthy.
I hope that still more owners of Merlin's puppies will write me.
